“We control our reasoned choice and all acts that depend on that moral will. What’s not under our control are the body and any of its parts, our possessions, parents, siblings, children, or country–anything with which we might associate.” ~ Epictetus, Discourses, 1.22.10
Well, I can’t control the fact that the past several entries have been about control. But, it is important to hammer the point home. The only thing that is under our control is our mind. Not even our body is in the inner circle of control. We can get illnesses and break bones. All we can control are our choices and acts. You can see a child dying of cancer and still manage to have the biggest smile and greatest spirit. Then you can see a perfectly healthy person sitting in traffic (back when we had traffic) losing their freakin’ mind! Just try to keep your mind under control. It’s definitely not easy, but it gets easier with practice.
